Random Wednesday Thoughts

1 - Eric Cressey should be read by every high school athlete in this country.  Simple and to the point.

2 - Is it a coincidence that the Presidential Election falls during the same year as the summer Olympics?  We really only route for politicians and America once every four years.

3 - 2 Bosu Ball and band trainers were doing dead lifts at the gym today.  I would like to think I had something to do with that.

4 - It's you diet stupid.  Read the nutrition tab at t-nation.com and get some new ideas.  Give it 90 days and you will be hooked.

5 - The amount of regurgitated, repackaged content on YouTube frightens me.  If people took half the time to try and create something new and actually capture the footage they use we would have some terrifyingly poignant art.

Random Thoughts on an unintended vacation.

1 - Chad Johnson is not as good as he thinks he is.  Come one Chad - just catch the ball.

2 - Your posterior chain is your weakest link in athletic performance.  Yes I am taking to you Mr. Endurance Athlete.

3 - The Democrats are making it very difficult to support the party.  Joe Biden?  Really?!  This is the best we could do?  Joe "I like to lose presidential races" Biden?

4 - The chance that you will work hard enough and eat enough to "bulk up" are slim to none. (No pun intended.)  If more women could bench their body weight we would be a nation of men with perpetual hard ons. (Not to mention if they could squat 2x's and Dead lift 3x's their body weight.)

5 - The Yankee's season ended last night with their loss to Boston.  Joe - you have a few months to find some pitching talent.  I suggest you use it.

6 - Few medical practitioners  understand athletes.  Even fewer know how to treat them.  Talk up doctors that understand athletes and help them build their businesses.

Gordon Lightfoot and the Unbearable Lightness of Being

How small the world becomes inside this tiny little box.  I saw an old friend tonight for the first time in many, many years.  Training was playing catch up and lifting a few cold ones remembering when we were much younger wee lads.  I come home to pop on the iTunes and Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of Edmund" comes on the random shuffle.  Change Edmund to Elder and I think I have a fun little story.

Two of the most depressing things I have read in a while.

Are you fucking kidding me?
and even better:

I honestly don't know what people are thinking. Oh that's right they aren't. They are believing. I am the last person to say that the doctor isn't always right and you should question, research and consult other professionals but praying?! WOW! (shaking head) wow.

Happy with the work and rest ratio but the poundage made me a little pissed.  This is a push pull workout with some leg work thrown in.  Wednesday is heavy legs.  I am losing some strength since the reps have gone up but this should be nice for the charity ride in Sept.

Great Britain's Cycling Team in Bejing

Are these guys for real?  What can you say but wow!  Chris Hoy has always been one of the most intimidating things I have ever seen on a bike but he is on another planet right now as far as upping his game for the big day.  Great to see Wiggins fly to the finish as well as all the boys coming out and getting the job done.

Hats off GB Cycling for a great performance when it counts the most.  Just goes to show you with a little focus and a lot of determination you can build a world class track cycling program.

Steve Johnson. . . . anyone at USA Cycling.   Are you watching this?  Taking notes?  Asking a few questions?. . . . . Probably not which is sad.  The only person more inept in world cycling at this moment is the UCI.  They have the excuse of having their balls cut off.  USA Cycling hasn't had balls in a long time.

Is the fog around your head that dense?

The dumbbell rack is almost 20 feet long.  The floor area away from this small piece of real estate is quite large.  As a matter of fact it is pretty much most of the rest of the gym.  So WHY is it that people take the dumbbells off the rack and stand in front of all the other weights.  Right - There is no one else in the gym that might need to use a weight.  You stand there and do your curls and watch your guns grow.  Fucking tool bags.  Next week something heavy there way comes.
